At Thornton Hough Primary School we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect the whole school community to share this commitment.  It is our duty to ensure that the children's right to safety is upheld at all times.

All adults in our school recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility irrespective of the role they undertake or whether or not their role has direct contact or responsibility for children. We are committed to providing a secure environment for pupils, where children feel safe and are kept safe.

Safeguarding is managed in school in a number of ways including:

- high expectations of behaviour within the school underpinned by clear behaviour policy and systems

- Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy

- Anti-Bullying policy and child-friendly anti-bullying policy

- Health and Safety training for all staff

- Online/Digital safety policy

- Online/Digital safety monthly newsletters

- Online/Digital safety training for staff, parents and governors

- Pupil Voice

- Safeguarding training for all staff and regular updates on any guidance or policy changes 

- Use of CPOMS monitoring and recording system to record and monitor any concerns

- Internal, local authority and independent auditing of safeguarding procedures

- We follow Safer Recruitment procedures for all staff and volunteers. Any visitors are checked on arrival and monitored whilst on premises

- Governing Body recognises their safegaurding strategic leadership responsibilities and thoroughly check and monitor all policies and procedures

A shared responsibility and commitment:

As part of safeguarding work, we work in partnership with colleagues from other agencies.  This includes colleagues from school nursing, Mental Health Support Team, social care, police, health practitioners and other agencies. When we can, our intention is always to consult and work with parents/carers to achieve the best outcome for the child. Sometimes circumstances exist which do not allow for the consultation and the school has to take independent action in order to ensure a child is safeguarded. 

The safeguarding team at Thornton Hough Primary School work together to ensure that safeguarding is highly effective. This is monitored by the Governing Body and is a standing item on meeting agendas. In addition to this our Safeguarding governor has regular meetings with the leadership team to oversee policy, procedure and practice within the school. The Safeguarding Team includes:
